NECTAR is an open, voluntary, umbrella body, established to provide a forum in which the many organisations with an interest in sustainable transport in all its forms, can develop a coordinated view on contemporary transport issues.
NECTAR provides opportunity for the exchange of news, studies and information. NECTAR provides a single, co-ordinated voice for dialogue with the Government Office for the North East, One North East, the North East Assembly, the Association of North East Councils and similar bodies concerned with transport and related policies at a regional, national and European level Membership of NECTAR is open to organisations which:
NECTAR is one of a national network of Transport Activists’ Roundtables sustained through Campaign for Better Transport (formerly Transport 2000). The Executive NECTAR executive committee members currently include Campaign to Protect Rural England, Friends of the Earth, Living Streets, Railway Development Society (railfuture) and Tyne Valley Rail User Group, but all are welcome to participate. The Membership Organisations are deemed members on request, subject to their terms of reference being consistent with those of NECTAR. Members then receive the e-bulletin, opportunity to participate in the Executive, publicity in appropriate NECTAR documents, assistance in identifying local or campaign specific supporting organisations, and access to the NECTAR channels of communication with other regional organisations. |
